8/13/2023 0 Comments Living dark movie reddit![]() The film is interesting because of the ambiguity. If you're thinking about the movie at this level I'd strongly suggest the video above, I put about two Phd's worth of work into it and it discusses abuse and trauma throughout. So we have this back and forth where Peter's misstellings of the truth hamstring him into taking Charlie along so everyone gets the decapitation they're rooting for. This is not conducive to bringing your little sister but Paimon, the Cult and most crucially here the PLOT need her to be in that car. BUT, to take a holistic approach to this, really this scene is here to checkmate Peter in having to take Charlie to the party, a party where he's getting high, drinking, driving while intoxicated and trying to get in Bridget's ass. It's a practiced routine they're both exhausted by. Now yes, 100% we can say Annie is being a childish and maligned parent here, and we can tell from the coldness and how they're dancing round eachothers words (and guarding their own) that they've had many arguments like this before. Yet unlike Steve, Annie cannot escape the inherited behaviours of her mother and so undeniably she takes all of this out on Charlie, even blaming her at times for her and Ellen's relationship and their lack of one.Īnd slightly less important but still entirely in the same vein we have Peter asking for the car. ![]() We know Charlie is in a special needs class at school (visible disabilities, broad age range to class, described as such in script) and we know the diorama's we see at the start are a trauma timeline of Annie's life and Charlie's classroom seems to indicate she was diagnosed with special needs in preschool, something that for two overachieving parents that feel like they've messed up by involving Ellen in Charlie's formative years is no doubt a huge burden and source of guilt. ![]() It's early here so my brain isn't fully up to speed yet but if you'd like to know a lot, lot more please see here:Ĭouple of other quick things to point out though: Calling Charlie 'some kind of idiot' is even more cutting when we consider a big point of trauma for Annie is Charlie's special needs diagnosis. Really I think there's more Hereditary abuse (let's say the cyclic passing of negative behaviours between generations of the family) than there is direct implication of Hereditary mental illness. What made the tale so effective was the build, with the story unspooling over multiple entries before it turns into Descent-style horror.Hi there, abuse is a massive theme in the film. It ends on an ambiguous note and it's never confirmed if what Ted is experiencing was real or imagined. The story is a real slow burn, with the tension and dread building the more Ted and his friend explore the cave. One of the eeriest creepypasta's is 2000's Ted's Caving Page - AKA "Ted The Caver" - which finds the title character and his friend "B" opening and exploring a virgin cave system. One of the best would be TV series Channel Zero, an anthology horror show where each season used a different creepypasta as inspiration. ![]() Despite their popularity, there haven't been many movies or shows created from these tales. Other famous creepypasta stories include "lost" Simpsons episode "Dead Bart," "NES Godzilla Creepypasta," and "Jeff The Killer," with the latter revolving around a creepy looking serial killer. ![]()
